Hi!
Here is a picture of one of Mrs. K’s gardens! Last night she planted the gift that Zoe and her family gave her! It looks beautiful and it filled a hole in her garden, was a perfect fit! Thank-you for spoiling Mrs. K everyone, she was so happy and so touched by your lovely cards, gifts and thoughtfulness!
We will miss you Mrs. K! It is not good-bye but adieu….
You were a terrific teaching partner, Andrea, and I will miss you!
Love, Ms. Jo-Anne:)
Have a happy summer!!!

Dear Parents,
In the last few days, I have received many thoughtful cards, photos, crafts and generous gifts from you and the children! Thank you for all of these lovely and thoughtful gestures as they mean a lot to me. Most of all, thank you for the privilege of teaching your child this year! It has been a wonderful year! I have LOVED every minute of the excitement, challenges and laughter that comes with teaching 3, 4 and now 5 year olds! I will look back to the school year of 2010-2011 with very fond memories.
W. Erskine Johnston PS is a truly amazing school filled with wonderful children, teachers, staff and parents! Your children will have a positive, happy, school journey here at WEJ. I wish the children all the best in Senior Kindergarten. I believe they are ready for the next challenge! I am very proud of their successes this year! They have learned to play with others, be a “good” friend, print their names, use scissors, learn their letters, sounds and numbers, as well as many, many other things! They have worked very hard!!!
I hope our paths cross again! If you would like to send me an email to say hello or to send me an update or cute picture of your child, please do. I would love that!

Have a happy and safe summer!

Hi! Today feels like summer doesn’t it?
At lunch, I said to Mrs. Heleno, as we were taking a little walk for a coffee, ”it feels like summer today!” and she responded with, “It IS summer, Jo-Anne!”… Where has the time gone?
It has been such a great year, I have mixed emotions about this time of year, it is hard to let go of my students but it is so incredible to reflect upon their growth over the year; academic, social and of course their physical changes too. As I often say to my boys to explain this feeling, it is “happy/sad”.
Speaking of all the amazing progress: our official report card will be coming home on Wednesday June 29. Keep an eye out for the envelope in Mr. Zippy!
I always like to give the children a little “something” at the end of the year. So, this year each student will receive an autographed summer beach ball! We “autographed” each beach ball, which means the children practiced printing their names 22 times this morning! This activity was a bit challenging. Challenge #1 the children had to pass the ball to the person on their right always…. and then ONCE we got the hang of passing the ball to the person on our right, challenge #2 was to hold onto the bouncy beach ball while we waited for our long-named friends to write their names! Hahaha, It was a lot of fun and the “autographed beach ball” will go home on Wednesday after our party!
Our party is from 2:30-3:45 on Wednesday in our classroom. Just as a heads up, the intermediate dance will be taking place in the gym on that day so when you arrive, there will be music and our grade 7 and 8 students in the foyer. Please sign in at the office and come on down!:)

Pssst..just because I can’t keep a secret….I have a special slideshow that I have been working on and am so excited to show you all during the party!! I hope to see you there!! Have a wondeful Monday!

Hi! Happy Friday!
Before we enjoyed our sundaes we created some sundaes practicing our colouring, cutting and gluing skills! We decided that one of the best things about summer is …ICE-CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!

The children enjoyed their ice-cream sundaes yesterday! Thanks to everyone for bringing in toppings! We had a wonderful selection of berries, bananas, smarties, jujubes, sprinkles and marshmallows to name a few! mmmmm it was so yummy!

While we were enjoying our sundaes, one of our students, Eli, reminded me to put on the “Ice-cream Sundae” song which was a perfect idea! It was a happy afternoon and it was nice to have our parents join us too! We also had a surprise visit from Marshall and his dad! It was so nice to see Marshall again!
Thanks again for your generous contributions!:)
Have a wonderful Friday and great weekend with your family!

Hi!
I hope you are enjoying your week, things are great here at school, we are finishing up some special projects, reviewing letters and numbers and enjoying our last days together! and …. of course, we are playing and having fun with our friends!
I am so proud of our students, they have just made such incredible progress this year! I am not ready to let them go yet…I asked them if they would like to keep coming to school over the summer but the majority of my little friends responded with ” no, we want summer holiday”…but I did get a few YESes (believe it or not)!!!! I will miss them but am happy to be staying at WEJ next year so I can still see and hug them and keep a little eye on how they are doing in SK.
Anyways,
Tomorrow is our ICE CREAM SUNDAE AFTERNOON!!
Please remember to send in your child’s topping tomorrow! Its going to be so yummy!
Thanks so much and if you can feel free to join us at 2:00!

Hi! Happy Friday to you!
We have set up a “soil” centre with cups, spoons, trucks etc. We were hoping to make a garden with “fake” flowers next week. I am going to pick up some silk, plastic flowers from the dollar store but I thought I would ask our families for any donations of fake flowers as well. If you have any “old” flowers that you are thinking of throwing out or getting rid of, we would be happy to take them off your hands!
Thanks so much!
We had a wonderful day today, our freezies were very yummy! A refreshing way to end the week!!
Happy Week-end!!!

Hi!
We have been talking about “Living Things” over the last couple of months, focussing on the life cycle of chicks and butterflies.
The last few days we have been talking and reading books about seeds, planting and flowers! We read the book How A Seed Grows and last week we planted catgrass seeds and have been watering and sunning our plants! They are beginning to grow and the children are so excited about the growth of their catgrass. Some plants are a bit “slow” to grow but we are hopeful that each seed grows! If not, that is part of the process right? Some plants grow and sometimes they don’t.

Other News:
New Sign-In…

The students are signing in by writing their names on the chalkboard each day rather than finding their ‘name button”. This has been a highlight this week and has sparked a new enthusiasm in our morning routines! It is wonderful to see how well they can print their names!
Enjoy your day and thanks for reading!
Ms. Jo-Anne:)
