Teddy Bear Picnic

 Hi!

Tomorrow, Wednesday November 30, is our Teddy Bear Picnic Day!!

Please send your child to school with his or her teddybear! We are going to have so much fun introducing our bears to school. We will make bear head bands, introduce our bears to Madame Scarfo, eatlunch and have quiet time with our bears.

Our bears will join us for our Calendar activities and then we will do a math activity where we will sort the bears by colour and size and record our findings on a graph! We will show our bears how we play and then have a wonderful picnic together! We will have juice and a special snack! Please let me know if you can send in something special!

Can’t wait!

We are looking forward to a “beary” good day with your children and their bears! 🙂

Ms. Jo-Anne and Mr. Kneebone

Movember Day tomorrow..Tuesday November 29

Hi!

Just a little friendly reminder that tomorrow is  MOVEMBER DAY!

Students and teachers are invited to participate in our MOVEMBER DAY, and donate a toonie to cancer research to sport a moustache for the day. You can draw one on, wear one you’ve made from paper or yarn, or wear a fake one you have left over from Halloween!

It will be a lot of fun and it will raise money for an important cause!

Thanks so much!

Ms. Jo-Anne and Mr. Kneebone 🙂

Show and Tell..starting on Monday Nov. 27

                                                                  Thursday November 23, 2011

 Dear Family,

We will be starting our “Show and Tell” program on Monday November 27th.

I believe this is a wonderful way to help develop oral language skills, as well as confidence in children.

This program will run alongside the “Kinderstar” program. When your child is the Kinderstar this month, he/she can bring in a special toy, book, picture, doll etc to show the class. Please refer to our November and December calendars for your child’s Kinderstar day.

Also, please take a look at the “question wheel” that I will send home (tomorrow in Mr. Zippy) to help prepare your child with his or her presentation. The expectation is that each child will tell at least 3 facts about his or her “treasure”. Also, we will be learning to ask good questions after each presentation, learning the difference between a story and question.

The children enjoy this program and do exceptionally well presenting their treasures! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to write me a note in “Mr. Zippy”.

Thanks for your continued support!

….we look forward to Forrest’s show and tell on Monday!!!

Ms. Jo-Anne and Mr. Kneebone 🙂

Snow and dressing for the weather

   Dressing for the Weather

Dear Parents,

As the cold weather approaches, it is shopping time for many families.

Here are a few helpful hints for clothes shopping:

****Always see if your child can independently put on the clothing you are planning to purchase.

  1. Please try and avoid laces on the winter boots. Velcro is more manageable for little hands.
  2. Please try and choose a snowsuit that is easy to get on and off.  It should have a zipper that moves smoothly and easily.
  3. Please try and purchase mittens instead of gloves, as mittens are warmer and much easier to put on little hands.
  4. Please purchase tube scarves or neck warmers.  For the safety of the children, we are very concerned about them wearing scarves at school.  Scarves can easily get caught on the play structure or the school bus.
  5. In the spring, rain boots, rain coats, and splash pants are a great idea on wet days.  Please do not send your child to school with an umbrella.

Please remember to clearly label every item of clothing with your child’s name so that we can easily return any lost clothing.

These suggestions should make dressing for the colder weather much easier and safer for all of the Kindergarten children!

With Greatest Appreciation,

Ms. Jo-Anne  and Mr. Kneebone

Hibernation…

Hi!

It was so nice to see you at our Parent teacher Interviews last week. We enjoyed talking to you about your children and the progress they have made! I love JK for this reason, the progress is so incredible and I love to watch the children grow over the year!

Hibernation:

We began the week with a read aloud, Time to sleep. This is a wonderful book to introduce the idea of hibernation to the students as well as an introduction to the kinds of animals that hibernate. Bear decides that it smells like winter and he must tell his friends who also hibernate to start preparing for winter. Animals such as skunks, snails, ladybugs, turtles and the friends end up waking Bear at the end, who is already in his cave sleeeping! The children have been encouraged to paint any of the animals from the story at the Paint Centre. I love seeing their knowledge through their art work!!

We had Grace’s Mommy, Jenny in to volunteer today and she made toilett paper roll bears with the boys and girls. This is a craft I like to do each year, they are adorable and the children love making them! It also is a wonderful activity to further develop their fine motor skills: colouring, cutting and gluing! They are turning out great! Thanks Jenny for your help this morning! I will post a picture of our displayed bears tomorrow! (and thank you for all of your toilet paper rolls too!)

The children have been patterning bears this week as well at our math centre. We have been working on a few pattern rules this year so far at our Calendar activities and table tops and so the children were asked to make an AB pattern using any colours they want. I am very impressed with their patterning skills and more importantly, their ability to tell us about their pattern, thus demonstrating their knowledge of simple patterns!

Today was also Syena’s birthday, happy birthday to you! Mr. Kneebone made one of his special crowns for her, it was a princess crown! You are so talented Mr. Kneebone, thank you!!!!

A great day in JK! Thank you to Forrest’s mom, Jing, for your help each afternoon!

We are supposed to get some SNOW tonight, just think about the excitement that will bring tomorrow for our little children!!! Listen to the radio or check on the WEJ blog to check for bus cancellations. Just a reminder that IF buses are cancelled the school remains open! Let’s hope it is just a little dusting and it goes away by the end of the day 🙂

Night night! Thanks for reading as always!

Ms. Jo-Anne 🙂

Movember Day!!!…next Tuesday Nov. 29!!!

Announcing….from Ms. Stephens…
On November 29, we will be holding a one-day event at our school called MOVEMBER DAY!

During November each year, men all around the world grow moustaches to help raise funds and awareness for cancer research. Mr Hooper and Mr Richardson have grown moustaches to support WEJ’s Movember, and now it’s time to see Ms Shirley with a boxcar moustache! Ms Lewis with a handlebar moustache! Mme Esposito with a trucker moustache!

Just a few pictures of our Canada Geese

Hi!

We finished our Canadian Geese today, thanks to Gracie’s Mom, Ying and Mr. Kneebone, who worked with the children during play time today. They look amazing, what do you think?

We also had our gym time outside and we “migrated” south, *trying* to fly in a V formation like real Canadian Geese. We discovered this was more challenging than we thought it would be.

We ended our gym time at the big playground, playing on the slides, swings, balance posts and teeter totter.

Was a good day overall. We also were invited to Miss Parliament and Mrs. Almeida’s class to look at their class-video about Peace. It was very well done and it was a wonderful way to reflect on the meaning of Remembrance Day and Peace. If you want to take a look at it, please feel free to visit Mrs. Almeida and Miss Parliament’s class Blog at the following link:

http://tammyalmeida.edublogs.org/2011/11/16/teaching-others-about-peace/

Just a reminder that due to the Book Fair, we will not be having library day tomorrow but we will be going to the computer lab!!

Also, just another reminder that there is no school for students on Friday November 18 as we will be meeting with many of you to talk about our favourite subject: YOUR CHILDREN!!! 🙂

Night night!

Ms. Jo-Anne 🙂
