Sing a long

Hi!

Today was a very good but quiet Monday here at school as we had only 16 friends in attendance! Many friends have already begun their holidays in warm, tropical areas and I think a few friends are, unfortunately, still under the weather. Mr. Kneebone is still away and we miss him a lot! We hope he returns to school soon but only when he is healthy and strong again!

Our day began with a read aloud, Howard B. Wigglebottom: and the power of Giving: A Christmas Story. We meet our favourite bunny, Howard B. Wigglebottom again and we see how he learns to give and think of others rather than himself. We talked about the author’s main idea and how important it is to give and how GOOD it feels to give and care for others whoย are in need. The children enjoyed this story and we discussed the parts of the story that we liked or thought were important. Interestingly enough, the children really liked how Howard B. Wigglebottom was able to get home and they concluded that it was unsafe for a bunny to be alone without his parents. Smart children we have!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Weย  had a lot of opportunity for playing, creating and sharing with friends at play time in the morning as well as in the afternoon. As the children said, we even got to “Play in FRENCH”!!!! We are almost finished our special project for you and I hope to send them home in Mr. Zippy tomorrow for you!!! They are so pretty and smell so good!…

The highlight today was singing in the gym with Mrs. McIntyreย  and the other Kindergarten students at WEJ. Mrs. McIntyre played the piano and we sang many seasonal songs together as a collective group of 120 students! WE sounded amazing and the children enjoyed singing and listening to Mrs. “Mac” play! A big thank-you to Mrs. McIntyre for sharing her musical talents with us all!

Tomorrow is “Rudolph” day…paint your nose red day!

Looking forward to the day!

Holiday Craft/Activity Day…a success!

Hi!

I was so happy to return to school with clear eyes on Friday! I really missed the children and it was good to see everyone!I was happy to hear that the children enjoyed dressing up in their holiday colours over the week. Thank-you for your amazing participation with this!!:)

Mrs. Jazz was kind and took a picture of everyone in their stripes! Thank-you Mrs. Jazz, it made me happy to see this picture while I was at home resting!

The boys and girls enjoyed the holiday craft rotation which started right at 9:30 with making Rudolph hats with us! This hat was a bit tricky but the children did very well at listeningย  and following instructions!

(Thanks to all of the parents, Mr. Kneebone and Mrs. Heleno’s co-op student, Rachel for cutting all of the pieces for 6 classes!) That was a lot of cutting but so worth it! Don’t they look so cute?

The children then proceeded to the other Kindergarten classes over the day where they participated in many fun activities such as a sing a long, played “holiday bingo”, made reindeer food, listened to a holiday story and played a game and made a Christmas ornament (which will be sent home on Monday).

It was a really fun day, I think the children were tired out by the end of the day! One student said, “when do we get to play?”ย  We will have a lot of play-based learning time on Monday! We are working on some special gifts for you and I hope to have them completed by Tuesday!!

Looking onto Next week:

Gingerbread houses

Hi!

This morning we continued our comparison journey of Gingerbread man stories, with the story, Gingerbread Friends, written by Jan Brett. This is a sequel to the book I read earlier this week, The Gingerbread Baby. This was a much different version and the children really enjoyed how it ended! Ask your child how this ended…(hint…Mattie made the Gingerbread baby a lot of friends for him to play with in his gingerbread house!)

We made gingerbread houses with the boys and girls! Thanks to our awesome “Mom volunteers” for their help, this activity went well! The children enjoyed making the houses and did very well despite how difficult it was to put the roof on! Here are some pictures for you to look at:

getting ready

working hard

working on the challenging roof

sneaking a candy, yum yum!

our houses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Using a shared writing approach, we reflected on this activity and talked about what we liked and what we didn’t like or what we found challenging. Many of the children liked the jelly beans, smarties andย  using the marshmallows for snow and trees. We talked about how difficult and frustrating it was when our roof collasped or when the walls were breaking.

I believe reflection is always a good learning tool, and as a teacher, I am constantly reflecting on my practices and how to improve…I made a mental note to myself to bring more icing sugar next year and to perhaps use 2 days to do this activity which would give the house time to dry before we placed candies on it!

Thanks again to our parent volunteers for all of your help! It was smooth sailing thanks to you all!:)

Tomorrow is Friday and we have library and computers! Please remember to send in all library books!

Looking on to next week:

Spirit week:

Begins next Monday December 12 with WEAR White Day!!!! Please take a look at your calendars to help your child dress for the holiday spirit activities that we have planned for next week! Its going to be fun! Don’t worry, I’ll send friendly reminders too!

Thanks for reading!
