Introduction to Mindfulness Workshop

What: Introductory workshop offered to the parents only at Kanata Highlands. This workshop will include the following topics: what is mindfulness; research about the benefits of practicing mindfulness; the stress model, resiliency, and the physiology of practicing mindfulness; experiential exercises; and time for questions and answers.

Parents will gain an understanding of how mindfulness is linked to what our students are learning about self-regulation and self-awareness through the Mindup program.

Presenter: Brittany Glynn, Ph.D., is a Certified Mindfulness-Based Symptom Management (MBSM) Teacher and a Trained Teacher in Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). She co-facilitates eight-week MBSM and MSC group courses, while also leading various workshops related to mindfulness, compassion, behavior change, performance psychology, and how to implement self-care and long-term healthy habits for skillful living and well-being. She has led mindfulness and compassion workshops with counselors, parents, school teachers, healthcare professionals, university faculty and graduate students, yoga therapists, and wellness professionals. Currently she is a Postdoctoral Fellow exploring the effects of mindfulness interventions on chronic pain as part of the Interdisciplinary Pain Research Lab at The Ottawa Hospital.

Family Event – parents and children welcome to attend

The KHPS Staff invites you to join us for a Math and Second Language Learning Night; an opportunity to learn with your child about activities and games to further support their learning at home in both Math and French

Where: Kanata Highlands Public School, Classrooms & Makerspace

When: Wednesday March 1st, 2017.  Between 6:00 and 7:00 pm

Who: The whole family!

Other details:

• Rotate around various classrooms and Makerspace learning math games and how best to support your child in French

• Paperless handout will be shared on our KHPS website with links to activities

• Collect stamps for each activity you attend with your child for a chance to enter a door prize

• Prizes will be drawn at KHPS the morning of March 2nd during announcements
